They should not be treated as ordinary single-layer film. Woven tape, coatings, liners, labels, seams, printing and residual product all affect sorting, washing, extrusion and the value of the recycled pellet.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Identify the bag before choosing the process<\/h2>\n<p>A recycling project should separate at least these material classes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Clean production scrap:<\/strong> PP raffia, woven offcuts and rejected empty bags with known composition<\/li>\n<li><strong>Post-use woven sacks:<\/strong> fertilizer, feed, grain, resin or construction-product bags<\/li>\n<li><strong>FIBCs or bulk bags:<\/strong> large woven PP containers that may include coatings, PE liners, lifting loops, document pouches and labels<\/li>\n<li><strong>Laminated or heavily coated bags:<\/strong> structures that may contain paper, PE film, aluminum or barrier layers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Record resin, coating, liner, color, printing, stitching and previous contents. The bag&#8217;s history is a safety and product-quality input. Containers that held hazardous, unknown or regulated substances require qualified assessment and may not be suitable for the intended mechanical-recycling route. Never assume that a quick rinse makes an unknown bulk bag safe.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Typical recycling routes<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clean post-industrial PP woven scrap<\/h3>\n<p>Known clean scrap may be inspected, metal-protected, cut, compacted and pelletized without a full wash. Filtration is still selected for printing, paper labels, sewing thread and production contamination. Keeping colors and formulations separate generally provides more control over the pellet grade.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contaminated post-use sacks and FIBCs<\/h3>\n<p>A typical industrial route is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>inspection and classification \u2192 liner\/label and foreign-item removal \u2192 debaling and metered feeding \u2192 shredding or granulation \u2192 pre-washing and friction washing \u2192 density separation and rinsing \u2192 mechanical dewatering or squeezing \u2192 controlled extrusion, filtration and pelletizing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The order and washing chemistry depend on the previous contents. Dry mineral dust, organic residue, oils and water-soluble product need different pre-cleaning and wastewater controls. A supplier should test representative normal and worst-normal material before fixing the equipment list.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 1: inspection, sorting and preparation<\/h2>\n<p>Inspect bags while they are still identifiable. Keep records of the source and previous product where available. Separate unknown containers, chemically incompatible loads, heavily laminated structures and bags with excessive foreign material. Remove rigid inserts, metal, ropes and non-processable attachments before high-speed equipment.<\/p>\n<p>FIBC liners are often a different form or grade of polymer from the woven PP body. Depending on the target product, the liner may need to be removed and recycled separately. Document pouches, labels and stitching can also introduce incompatible resin, paper or adhesive.<\/p>\n<p>Bales should be opened and metered rather than dropped into a shredder as an uncontrolled mass. Feed stability affects motor load, cut quality and the performance of every washer downstream.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 2: size reduction<\/h2>\n<p>Woven fabric is tough and can wrap around shafts. The shredder or granulator needs a suitable rotor, knife arrangement and infeed system. Large folded FIBCs and baled sacks may use low-speed primary shredding before final granulation; loose, prepared production scrap may enter a specialized granulator directly.<\/p>\n<p>Define the required flake or strip size from washing and extrusion feeding. A smaller screen is not a cure for wrapping or unstable feeding. During trials, record throughput, current, stoppages, fines and the amount of uncut material.<\/p>\n<p>Review <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energycle.com\/recycling-solutions\/pp-woven-bags-raffia-recycling-line\/\">PP woven bag and raffia recycling line<\/a> configurations together with the incoming-bale preparation and reject-handling plan.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 3: washing and separation<\/h2>\n<p>Pre-washing removes loose dust, product residue and grit before they cause excessive wear. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energycle.com\/high-speed-friction-washer\/\">high-speed friction washer<\/a> can provide mechanical surface cleaning after size reduction. Water temperature, detergent, residence time and number of stages should be established by trials and discharge requirements, not a universal recipe.<\/p>\n<p>PP normally floats in water, so a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energycle.com\/sink-float-separation-tank\/\">sink-float tank<\/a> can remove many denser contaminants. It will not remove all PE liners, polyolefin labels or low-density foreign materials, and it does not replace source sorting.<\/p>\n<p>Plan for water filtration, sediment removal and the treatment of dissolved or suspended contamination from the bags&#8217; previous contents. The wastewater system is part of the recycling process and can be the capacity constraint on dirty material.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 4: dewatering and densification<\/h2>\n<p>Woven strips and flakes retain water in folds and between tapes. Mechanical dewatering should remove as much free water as practical before thermal drying or extrusion. A screw press or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energycle.com\/drying-systems\/plastic-film-squeezing-machine\/\">plastic film squeezing machine<\/a> can also increase bulk density and stabilize feeding.<\/p>\n<p>Measure residual moisture using an agreed method and sample across the production run. One dry sample cannot establish line performance. Also record output bulk density and particle form because an average moisture value does not show whether the extruder will feed consistently.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 5: extrusion, filtration and pelletizing<\/h2>\n<p>Densified PP feed is melted and homogenized in the extruder. Venting manages residual moisture and volatiles within the equipment&#8217;s operating range. Melt filtration captures solid contamination, but frequent screen changes can reduce output when incoming paper, aluminum or grit is not controlled upstream.<\/p>\n<p>Printed and degraded material may affect odor, color and properties even after filtration. Set process temperatures from the resin, residence time and trials; avoid treating a single temperature profile as correct for all PP bag streams.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energycle.com\/plastic-pelletizers\/water-ring-pelletizing-system-for-pp-pe-woven-bags\/\">water-ring pelletizing system for woven bags<\/a> is one possible finishing configuration. The selected cutter, cooling and drying stages must match melt behavior, pellet specification and production rate.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quality checks for recycled PP bag pellets<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PP content and incompatible polymer or multilayer content<\/li>\n<li>Moisture and volatile behavior<\/li>\n<li>Melt flow consistency<\/li>\n<li>Color, odor, black specks and visible contamination<\/li>\n<li>Metal, paper, mineral and ash content where relevant<\/li>\n<li>Pellet size, fines and bulk density<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical or product trials required by the intended customer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do not promise that every recycled FIBC can return to the same duty. The next application depends on composition, contamination, degradation and regulatory or customer requirements. Recycled pellets may be used in suitable non-critical molded, extruded or woven products when they meet the relevant specification.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Line acceptance criteria<\/h2>\n<p>A useful factory or site acceptance test should state:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The tested bag types, liners, contamination and incoming moisture<\/li>\n<li>Stable net output of accepted flakes or pellets<\/li>\n<li>Yield, rejects and filter-change frequency<\/li>\n<li>Electricity, water and heat used during the defined test period<\/li>\n<li>Output moisture, bulk density and agreed pellet-quality results<\/li>\n<li>Stoppages, wrapping, manual interventions and cleaning time<\/li>\n<li>Wastewater solids and the destination of rejected material<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Compare results on a common feed and output basis. A high hopper feed rate is not the same as high saleable-pellet yield.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common PP bag recycling mistakes<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accepting FIBCs without knowing their previous contents<\/li>\n<li>Treating liners, coatings, labels and sewing thread as harmless PP<\/li>\n<li>Using one process for clean raffia scrap and heavily contaminated sacks<\/li>\n<li>Expecting sink-float separation to remove every low-density contaminant<\/li>\n<li>Using heat to compensate for weak mechanical dewatering<\/li>\n<li>Measuring nominal capacity without yield, filter changes or output quality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Woven bags are not PP nonwovens<\/h2>\n<p>Woven PP uses tapes interlaced into fabric, while nonwoven PP is made from fibers or filaments bonded into a web. Their collection sources, contamination, bulk behavior and size-reduction response can differ.
