The result depends on collection, package design, sorting, washing and the specification required by the next manufacturer. A resin identification code identifies the plastic family; it does not guarantee that every item is accepted in every local collection system or suitable for bottle-to-bottle use.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What belongs in a PET bottle stream?<\/h2>\n<p>Common beverage and household-product bottles made from PET may be accepted when the local program includes them. Empty the container and follow local instructions about caps, labels, rinsing and deposit return. Collection and bale receiving<\/h3>\n<p>Bottles arrive from deposit-return, curbside, commercial or other collection systems. The plant records supplier and bale grade, weighs the load and inspects moisture, non-PET items, fines and prohibited material. Feed variation must be included when the line is sized.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Bale opening and whole-bottle sorting<\/h3>\n<p>A bale breaker and metering conveyors separate compacted bottles. Screens and air systems remove loose fines and light material. Manual and optical sorting remove metals, non-PET bottles, PVC, PETG, opaque colors and other contaminants according to the product specification.<\/p>\n<p>Whole-bottle sorting is especially important for PVC. PVC and PET can both sink in water, so a later float-sink tank is not a reliable primary PVC-removal step.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Label and closure removal<\/h3>\n<p>Label removers, screens and air separation reduce sleeves and loose labels. Some caps remain until after grinding so their PE or PP can be separated from PET flakes by water density. Adhesive performance, label polymer and ink affect how cleanly the components separate.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Wet granulation<\/h3>\n<p>A granulator cuts bottles into flakes suitable for washing and separation. Water can cool the cutting chamber and begin removing loose soil. Knife condition, clearance and screen size affect flake distribution and fines.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Washing<\/h3>\n<p>Prewashing, hot washing, friction washing and rinsing remove beverage residue, dirt, labels, adhesives and chemicals. The wash temperature, chemistry, residence time and mechanical action should be a validated recipe for the actual feed. More chemical is not automatically better; poor rinse control can leave residue.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Density and other separation<\/h3>\n<p>In water, PET flakes normally sink while unfilled PE and PP closures float. This helps recover a PET fraction and a polyolefin fraction. It does not remove every sinking contaminant, and trapped air, fillers or bonded components can change behavior. Additional flake sorting and metal removal may be required.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Dewatering, drying and flake sorting<\/h3>\n<p>Mechanical dewatering removes surface water, followed by thermal or other drying when needed. Moisture limit and test method come from storage, transport and downstream processing requirements. Flake sorters may remove remaining color and polymer defects before packaging.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Optional extrusion and pelletizing<\/h3>\n<p>Clean dry flakes can be melted, vented, filtered and cut into pellets. The responsible operator must follow the relevant jurisdiction&#8217;s process authorization, challenge testing, quality assurance and intended-use requirements.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The main contaminants to control<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PVC<\/h3>\n<p>PVC can degrade under PET melt-processing conditions and harm color and material quality. Remove PVC bottles, sleeves and components as early as practical, preferably before granulation.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PETG, PLA and incompatible copolyesters<\/h3>\n<p>Some look like PET and may remain in the sinking fraction. Package-design review, whole-container sorting and appropriate detection are important.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Labels, inks and adhesives<\/h3>\n<p>Paper fibers, inks and adhesive residue can create specks, haze, color and odor. Label substrate, adhesive release and wash conditions need to work together.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Metals, glass, sand and organics<\/h3>\n<p>These affect equipment wear, filter load, yield and product acceptance. Preventing them at receiving is usually more effective than relying on the final melt filter.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How recyclers define good PET flake<\/h2>\n<p>Use a written buyer specification with test methods and a sampling plan. Typical items include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PET content and limits for PVC, polyolefins, PETG and other polymers<\/li>\n<li>Color fractions, black specks and visible foreign material<\/li>\n<li>Label, glue, paper, metal and fines<\/li>\n<li>Moisture and bulk density<\/li>\n<li>Intrinsic viscosity or other material-property requirements<\/li>\n<li>Lot identity, packaging and storage conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Do not advertise one universal purity percentage. Fiber, sheet, strapping and bottle applications have different requirements, and the test method changes what a number means.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Selecting an industrial PET recycling line<\/h2>\n<p>Provide bale photos and data, contaminant analysis, required accepted output, utilities, wastewater limits and operating schedule. Compare proposals on saleable yield, not only kg\/h input.
