A plastic bottle recycling machine should be selected from the bottle stream, required saleable output and site conditions—not a generic capacity table. PET beverage bottles, natural HDPE milk bottles and mixed household containers need different sorting, washing, separation and quality controls. This guide provides an RFQ and acceptance framework for a complete bottle line.
Define the bottle stream before the machine list
Document collection system, bale density, bottle sizes, polymer and colour composition, liquid residue, labels, closures, metal, glass and non-bottle items. Keep deposit-return PET, mixed kerbside bottles and industrial HDPE containers as separate design cases.

Choose the product before the process
Ask prospective buyers for a written specification. Washed flake, thermoform feed, fibre-grade PET, natural HDPE regrind and filtered pellets can have different requirements for polymer, colour, moisture, ash, metal, PVC, labels, particle size, melt flow and traceability.
Do not specify “food grade” as a machine feature. In the EU, recycled plastic intended for food contact is subject to requirements for input control, recycling process, decontamination and quality assurance. Typical PET bottle washing line
- Bale opening and metering: open compacted bottles and stabilise feed.
- Bottle and colour sorting: remove non-target polymer, colour and hazardous items while they remain identifiable.
- Label removal and screening: detach and remove labels and loose fines where appropriate.
- Metal control: protect cutters and downstream equipment.

- Prewash, hot wash or friction wash: remove the specified residue and adhesive under validated conditions.
- Density separation: float many PE/PP closures while PET sinks.
- Rinsing and water treatment: remove released contamination and control process water.

- Final sorting and storage: detect remaining defects and protect qualified output.

How an HDPE bottle line differs
In a natural HDPE line, the desired HDPE commonly floats in water while many heavy contaminants sink. PP closures can float with HDPE and may need source control or another validated sorting method when the buyer limits PP. Product residue, colour and odour can dominate the washing requirement.
Keep detergent, household-chemical, personal-care and food containers under defined intake rules. Containers with hazardous or unknown previous contents require an appropriate handling route; ordinary washing does not make every feed safe.
Capacity must mean saleable dry output
Do not choose from fixed “small, medium and large” bands without a mass balance. A line’s received-bottle input includes moisture, residue, labels, closures and rejected material. Required input is:
Required design input = target saleable dry output ÷ saleable yield ÷ planned operating availability
Estimate yield from representative trials. Then verify the sustained capacity of sorting, granulation, washing, water treatment, drying and storage on the same feed. The bottleneck determines the line output.

Do not use one purity number
A claim such as 99% or 99.9% purity is incomplete unless the target contaminant, sample method and recovery are defined. A PET line can meet a polymer percentage while failing colour, PVC, moisture, ash or metal limits.
Use a product specification and record results by lot. Measure sorting purity and recovery at both outlets. Retain feed and output samples from acceptance tests and link them to operating settings.
Water and chemistry design
Define fresh-water makeup, recirculation, filtration, settling, sludge dewatering, cleaning and discharge. Hot washing should be justified by the adhesive, oil or residue to be removed. A fixed temperature does not suit every feed or chemistry.
Ask for sampling points after major washing stages. During trials, determine where quality improves and where additional water or heat stops adding value. The environmental permit and local discharge conditions govern the treatment system.
Mechanical and thermal drying
A centrifugal dryer first removes free and surface water from rigid flakes. Thermal air may follow if the buyer or downstream extruder requires lower moisture. PET may also need controlled pre-drying before melt processing; a washing-line dryer is not automatically a desiccant resin dryer.

Safety, conformity and site responsibility
Review guarding, emergency stops, hazardous-energy isolation, access, dust or fume controls, hot surfaces, chemical handling and fire protection. Obtain a full electrical load list and utility schedule.
For EU machinery, CE marking is a manufacturer’s declaration of conformity, not a capacity certification. The European Commission’s 기계 법률 페이지 should be checked for current requirements and transition dates. If several machines become one line, responsibility for the assembly must be defined.
Factory acceptance test
Put the following in the contract:
- representative feed description and sample approval;
- stable run duration and permitted stoppages;
- dry input, rejects and accepted output mass;
- particle size, fines and full quality specification;
- incoming and final moisture test method;
- complete-line electricity, water makeup and chemistry;
- operator interventions and downtime causes;
- safety-function demonstration and documentation review;
- remedy and retest procedure if criteria are not met.
Site acceptance and handover
Repeat relevant performance tests after installation with site utilities and trained operators. Verify rotation, interlocks, emergency stops, alarms, water balance, drainage, ventilation and safe maintenance access before production handover.
Require an operating manual, circuit drawings, parts list, lubrication schedule, wear limits, critical spares and training record in the agreed language.
